Hawaii Board of Education Election on Sat. in Kona

Posted on September 19, 2008. Filed under: Big Island Hawaii Events, Community Up-Building, Local Announcements | Tags: , , , , |

Linda Morgan has sent me this email about the Hawaii Board of Education Candidates:

Hi friends,
I don’t mean to tell you how to vote on Saturday for our Big Island representative on the Board of Education, but I spent almost 3 hours on Monday searching for info on the 4 candidates running for this office, and it’s really hard to find information, so I want to share what I found.

Herb Watanabe has been our rep. for a very long time, and is definitely part of the disfunction of the Board of Ed., so he should only get our votes if we believe we have great schools, and I do not.

Bryant has not filed statements anywhere I could find online, so I assume if he is not competent enough to make his platform available, he cannot adequately represent us.

Walsh made some pretty silly statements about how he would improve education in Hawaii. He seems to be most concerned with “keeping order” in the classroom. The problems go way beyond poor student behavior!

Sanborn will get my vote, although with reservations. He supports decentralization, a good thing in my opinion. He also supports equal funding for charter schools, a pono idea. He sounds qualified and mostly on the right track in his statements. My reservations are about his interest in exploring vouchers.

If you haven’t had time to explore these candidates, I hope this note will help you make your decision.

Aloha,
Linda Morgan

Spread the word, yo!

QUIKSILVER PRESENTS: CLAY MARZO: JUST ADD WATER

(Huntington Beach, Calif.) August 5, 2008 – Quiksilver is pleased to announce the release of “Clay Marzo: Just Add Water,” an epic film that dives beneath the surface of one of the most gifted and creative surfers in the world, 19 year-old Clay Marzo. The film gives a never-before-seen look at Clay’s mind-blowing skills in the water and the challenges he faces on land as a result of Asperger’s Syndrome.

Like other kids growing up on the island of Maui, Clay lived in the waves. Clay’s pure love of the ocean along with his natural talent allowed him to excel to new heights, pushing the limits again and again.  A member of Quiksilver’s elite Young Guns crew, his spontaneous, unpredictable and creative style has earned him three NSSA National surfing titles, a nomination for Maneuver of the Year at the 2007 SURFER Magazine Poll and Video Awards and video spots in the biggest surf movies of this decade. Three-time ASP World Champion Andy Irons calls him, “hands down, the best 19 year-old surfer in the world,” while eight-time world champ Kelly Slater goes even farther saying, “He knows things I don’t know about surfing.”

Sometimes a puzzle to those around him, Clay was only recently diagnosed with Asperger’s.  The realities of life as an elite pro surfer, the constant travel and media demands, are not easy for Clay, but he is bravely taking on his difficulties.

“When I first met Clay I noticed that his personality and demeanor completely transformed in the ocean – he literally came alive in the water,” said the film’s director, Jamie Tierney.  “It was also clear that Clay was quite misunderstood in the surf world, and the mission of the film was to show the side that only those closest to him could see.”

“This movie will inspire people to live in the moment and to always take the time to look a little deeper. People are amazing and you never know what is behind their eyes,” said Strider Wasilewski, Quiksilver Surf Team Manager and the film’s producer.

The film will be available in stores in October, and a portion of the proceeds will be given to Surfer’s Healing, a foundation for Autism that seeks to enrich the lives of children with autism and the lives of their families by exposing them to the unique experience of surfing.

For more information on the tour and the film and to see more of Clay Marzo, visit www.quiksilver.com/justaddwater

Go! Enjoy.

Warriors of the Truth…The Mission Starts Local

Posted on November 7, 2007. Filed under: Community Up-Building, Local Announcements |

Aloha all you Beautiful Darlings out there,

Will you all pray with me today?  Pray for those who have been stolen from, for those that lost something important to them (Let’s focus on the material for this session).  My good friend had a lot of cash stolen earlier this week.

I affirm that “there is no loss in divine mind…it will be restored or the equivalent or better will be received”.

Let’s also pray for the thief, who has continued a cycle of lack and limitation, rather than the freedom they thought they could steal.  My message to the thief:  Don’t you know that we are all connected, what we do to another, we do to ourselves?  That having a clean conscience is more valuable than all the money in the world?  My hope is that a shift will take place and love will open the way for the guilty to step up, do the right thing, and be showered in forgiveness and righteousness (thereby becoming innocent again).

I am a bit sad to know that someone within our South Kona community has the lowliness of integrity to rationalize stealing from another.  How does this person look us in the eye without feeling shame? For we are a family and we must take care of each other.  The world is a chaotic mess.  Can’t we have safety and respite right here, with such a collective of high souls?  The Creator sees ALL, do not think you will get away with impure thoughts, words and actions (practice “ahimsa”).  When Babylon falls and the Great High Court is convened, your trial will have you pay for everything with interest compounded!

Be spotless in the sight of the One Who Sees All, stand up and be a true Warrior of the Truth, start making a difference within yourself thus making the world a better place.  This is the first and most important thing you can do.

And if any of you out there have any clues or leads, be sure to let me know ASAP.

Peace, Love, Flowers, Fairies, and Tickling tradewind Breezes~

Zen

11th Hour Movie – Wake Up Call Regarding Human Life on the Planet

Posted on October 7, 2007. Filed under: Big Island Hawaii Events, Local Announcements | Tags: , , , , , |

See it at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu Sunday, October 7th and Monday, October 8th.

It’s worthwhile to see…it’s like a fire under the tail. I went last night with Talia ( www.livinghealthydaily.com ) and Greg. I to see organizations like the NRDC (National Resource Defense Council) represented. I’m particularly sensitive to imagery so I was a little concerned about exposing myself to footage of environmental pollution and destruction. I was relieved that toward the end of the movie “What Can I do About it?” was addressed by a few experts.

Also, the importance of recognizing the outer world is a reflection of the inner world, so as an individual the biggest thing you can do is be aware of how your energy (thoughts, actions) affect the greater whole. Pay attention to life in each moment. Take time to connect with nature. People stood outside the theater afterwards and talked about the movie and shared ideas and thoughts. It was cool – it got us all talking anyway! One girl (Monica from Kona Natural Foods) suggested that buying and eating less packaged food is a good place to begin for those of us that can’t afford to buy a Hybrid car and build a green/sustainable house right now.

Anyway, it’s part of the overall call going on right now – STEP UP, each one and all.

Thank you!
