Aloha ,

So, the time to pay the tax man has come and gone. If you, like me, hate paying the Man, and aren’t really thrilled with how your money is being spent (can we say "bailout"?)–then here’s a way to do things differently in 2010: giving, instead of paying!

Will you give today?

Don’t want to give your money to the Man? Hate seeing your money go to bailouts and buyouts? Make your tax deductible gift today and support the things that are really too big to fail–like the health of our planet!

Making your tax deductible gift to KAHEA means YOU get to choose how your money is being spent towards the public good! This is a time when Hawaiian lands and waters, public trust "ceded" lands are under incredible threat: from illegal sale, de facto privatization, and from unwise and inappropriate development. Practitioners continue to be alienated from lands and waters by wrongheaded and racist land use policy, while many native landscapes and species move closer to extinction. Toxic facilities continue to be disproportionately sited in Native Hawaiian communities, while Hawaiians suffer some of the worst health among people in their own homeland. We can choose differently, and those choices are within reach! Your gift helps make the difference.

We hold in hand–collectively–a vision of a better way of doing things, a more just and truly sustainable Hawai’i, where people, culture and native ecosystems survive and thrive. Over and over we have shown that when we show up, when we use our voices, when we take action, amazing things can happen.

Facing some of the wealthiest individuals and institutions in the world, and some of the highest paid lawyers and lobbyists in Hawai’i, there is a grassroots movement surging forward, demanding more, building a new kind of box. So, rather than paying for "too big to fail" bailouts in 2010, why not invest in some good ol’ grassroots action by the little guy? Your gift makes an incredible difference. Please give today!

Mahalo nui,
Miwa
